Maliea and I visited Serra Preschool last month for their Open House. Maliea went right up to the loft and found the babies, telephone and ‘chicken’ (kitchen). She already knows her way around pretty well since Merrik was here last year. Even though she has become quite comfortable at Concordia where Merrik is now, she is very excited to have her own ‘class’ to go to next fall!

[all of these images were processed using Kellie Hatcher's B&W Film Set Lightroom Presets. Kellie and I met at the Wallflower Friends Retreat last October. Her work is beautiful! Take a look here and here to see some of my favorites. I mostly use my own presets and actions in Lightroom and Photoshop for processing but have had a difficult time getting a yummy neutral B&W. Kellie has nailed it and her settings are so beautiful that I've only had to make very slight adjustments to make them work for each image. If you are craving delicious B&W images, then this is the perfect set of presets!]

Our last field trip with Serra Preschool was at Zoomar’s in San Juan Capistrano. Every time we go here I am reminded how much I love the rustic, country feel this town has compared to San Clemente. It’s down to earth in it’s own pastoral way. I also love that both Merrik and Maliea are open to riding the horses they have. It’s so different than anything else we do with them (ie: the beach, sailing)!

[life] is the last days of serra preschool

Tomorrow is Merrik’s last day at Serra Preschool. I don’t know what I’m going to do without that wonderful community of people. Hopefully we will be able to keep in touch with most of them for years to come. It will be such a joy to see the kids from his class grow up in the community of San Clemente. It has been difficult to think about parting ways from Serra and I can only hope that Concordia Elementary will be almost as special for him.

I worked three of the last four days of school and they included Doughnuts with Dad and the space bubble plus lots of swinging since I am a sucker for setting up the swing. The kids would all come running to me as soon as we went outside to swing them really high!

The kids have all grown up so much since their first days here that I barely recognize them from their early photographs.

If there is any one thing that I can say I made the right decision in my parenting, it would be choosing Serra for Merrik’s Preschool-and hopefully we will be able to return when Maliea is ready.

I recently visited the San Diego Botanic Garden for a field trip with Merrik’s school and had a lovely time strolling the grounds and watching the kids explore and discover. My sister Katie and her daughter Rose joined Merrik and I for the brief visit. They have a fabulous Children’s Garden and I can’t wait to go back when it’s a little mellower. It was spring break AND free entrance so the place was packed with kids.

The Treehouse was closed and I can’t wait to let Merrik and Maliea explore that new addition since the first time I visited on Easter Day 2005 with an extremely large belly waiting for the arrival of Merrik James.

I took pictures of some of the Serra Preschool kids but I just have to post these yummy pics of some of the beautiful vegetation they have. I was so busy keeping up with the kids that I didn’t have time to write down what these plants were so I’ll have to ID them next time around.
