[photography is] a husband who is young at heart

Merrik bought Jim a skateboard for his 48th birthday. He wanted he and his dad to be able to ride together. Jim is like a 40 plusser going on 20 plus. He surfs, swims, skateboards like no other dad I know. This is why I fell in love with him. He plays hard and works [...]

[photography is] my kindergartener

Merrik starts Kindergarten soon. I can’t believe it has already come time. Jim and I felt like it was such a long way off. I look at Merrik and still see the cute little baby boy that he has been for the past 5 years. All of a sudden he is a boy, a kid, [...]

[photography is] faith

[photography is] faith

I am not an outwardly religious person and am pretty uncomfortable preaching or listening to others preach. I think it’s just that I feel this is a personal thing and like to respect privacy around personal things. BUT I do have to say that if you don’t believe in God or Allah or Budda or [...]

[photography is] the owners of granite peaks ranch | destination portrait photographer

My visit to Granite Peaks Ranch was also an opportunity to do a portrait session for the owners and our incredible hosts, Mike and Molly Gregoire. They were fantastic guides on hikes and to the great fishing spots, purveyors of delicious meals and their hospitality is unsurpassed. They are also a really cute couple who [...]

[photography is] a good friend

Merrik has a really good friend named Kole. They play amazingly well together-in the pool, at the beach, all through Preschool and even at home. Before we went on our family vacation, Kole and his sister came over to play. This is how cute Merrik and Kole are together.

After our visit to Granite Peaks Ranch, CO we hopped on the Durango-Silverton Narrow Guage Railroad in a vintage coach. Grampa Grampa (actually Gramma and Grampa but since Merrik started saying GG over a year ago we don’t want to change it) drove the Cruise America RV to Silverton to pick us up. The train [...]

[photography is] Granite Peaks Ranch

We had been talking about going to Granite Peaks Ranch, a private escape owned by Mike and Molly Gregoire, for some time. Molly is a passionate photographer and I loved the idea of spending time with her at her home away from home. She and her husband can only spend a few months a year [...]

[photography is] a Wallflower Friends Retreat

After a week away from any kind of cable, cell or internet service I returned to find an email in my inbox saying that I had be awarded, as runner up, a scholarship to The Wallflower Friends Photography Retreat!! I have been on the fence about attending this retreat for awhile. I had already decided [...]

[photography is] a road trip

[photography is] a road trip

We headed out on our RV trip early in the morning one Saturday in August. The first two days were spent driving the highway across California, Arizona a bit into New Mexico and up to Colorado. We really got a good sense of the West and Route 66. The movie Cars popped in our heads [...]

[photography is] life in a motorhome

I will be traveling by motorhome with my family for the next week exploring Durango, CO and surrounding countryside in-depth. I will be back in the studio August 16th! See you then!

[photography is] a new adventure

[photography is] a new adventure

We are heading out this week on a motorhome trip. Ever since I can remember I have wanted to go on a trip in a Winnebago. All my school friends would come back from summer vacation talking about their camping trip to Mexico or Lake Tahoe or across the country. When I was growing up [...]

[photography is] waiting for a client

I had such a great time yesterday waiting for my client to show up for his session. I was photographing some executives at The Orange County Performing Arts Center because of the wonderful angles, light and textures there. It was fun to walk around with almost no one around. They were having a free outdoor [...]

photography is [calling all artists]

That’s YOU! Yes ALL of you are artists in your own way. Some of you have to dig deeper to stir up the creative juices but just as with any working artist, it doesn’t just flow freely all the time. You have to work at it. Just because you have a camera doesn’t mean you [...]

[photography is] a family photo at the san clemente pier

We once again attempted our annual family photo at the pier after an unsuccessful first try. The light was sweet and so were the waves. But the water and air are unusually cold for this time of year.
