Just over a year ago I was in a rut and on the verge of throwing in the towel on photography. I have been doing it for 20 years professionally off and on and was done with commercial work being completely un-gratifying and getting frustrated with my own fine art work not evolving. With the kids taking the front seat in my life I thought there would be no way to keep putting my energy into it. Until I “met” Bonnie Berry online. At first I only saw her design work and bookmarked her site.
Then at the beginning of 2008 when I had a broken camera and was looking for inspiration for print design, I came across her blog. I was blown away. I don’t know what did it: her honest and endearing posts, her absolutely dreamy but natural, tack sharp at the critical, Henri Cartier-Bresson moment photographs or her delightful, intelligent mom-wit.
No matter what, I was hooked, inspired, and motivated to at least try to take my own family photographs to the next level even though I promised myself in college that I would never be a portrait photographer. I also promised myself that I would never go to Hawaii again and only travel to truly exotic locales. Well, I have been known to break a few promises to myself with positive outcome.
So, I have been photographing my own kids with a new found vision as well as other families and children along the way. I am excited about photography again to say the least.
When Bonnie said she was going to be in Southern California for photography sessions I knew I just had to have her photograph my whole family-including me (which I don’t have much of except for the snapshots by the stranger on the pier that we hand over my camera to) with her own honest-dreamy vision. And so she did. Thank you Bonnie for being you and for the gift you shared with us.

Beautiful! Beautiful! Beautiful Kristianne! I’m so excited to see you in your family photos. Bonnie did an amazing job. you look so happy and in love….
i’ve been thinking recently about having someone photograph me too as I have very few pics of myself other than fun snaps on vacation. It’s an unusual concept when one is used to being the photographer rather than the subject but worthy of exploration.
Oh Kristianne. I love your words. They are so meaningful to me. Thank you.
