new personal work

I have been really trying to work on my personal photography-not just images of the kids but thoughtful, creative artwork. I daydream about creating compelling work that is conceptual and inspiring. I even promised myself that I would enter a couple of new photographs in the San Clemente Art Association Juried Art Exhibition this month to get feedback and move the process along. Well, life got in the way again. I have been producing new work but getting it out there has not happened. I know the process is important so I continue to plug away nonetheless.

I had good intentions to enter the show and even printed out my images last week. The small one was almost done and the large one needed to be reprinted after several printing attempts with blemishes. This morning I finally had time between poopy diapers, playing Chinese Checkers with Merrik and laundry to print out the 12×12 print when of course I find out that the light cyan ink is out. I had to run to Staples to get an emergency supply. On the way there I realize that I left my $10 off coupon at home. Ugggh. Such is life. I did get it printed out finally — at noon. Right when it was supposed to be matted, framed AND dropped off with forms filled out already.

Anyway, that didn’t happen. Here are the two images that I had intended to put in the show. I am trying a new process of mounting them to handcrafted wood panels. Maybe now I will have more time to work on the new presentation rather than framing the large one.

  2. Kris – these are beautiful… it looks like you shot them with a holga or a diana. Yes? I love the wood panels – very organic and perfect for the work.
I am SO SO SO proud of you for producing work and plugging away. I so understand how life gets in the way of the production schedule – AND I don’t even have kids!!! But you are producing the work and you will get it into some show at some time, and get feedback and the process will move along. Sometimes it just happens slower than we like. :)
