aloha oe

We’re leaving for Oahu tomorrow so I thought I’d post some past images I took when we lived there. We will be staying in Waikiki-it’s is a weird experience to go back as a tourist-and on the North Shore. I am so excited to experience staying on the North Shore and can’t wait to do some photography there.
Grampa Grampa will be with us the whole time so I should be able to get a few surf sessions in! We are also going to check out the Hawaiian Railway for Merrik. It looks really cool.

momentary slice of heaven

Sunday night I had a little taste of heaven. Jim took both Merrik and Maliea into the bath
(we have one of those big jacuzzi tubs thank goodness) and I had a few minutes to myself.
To do what you ask? Hmmmm.
Spontaneously the closest thing was a glass of wine and I caught a tiny bit of the Oscars
uninterrupted (best animated short-which would probably be all I wanted to see anyway).
But it didn’t last long because for me it was more about seeing all of them in the tub and
being able to photograph them all together in that setting. A la natural, playing and loving
the water. [as you may have noticed Merrik was in one of his "avoid looking into mom's
camera at all costs" moods].

life of a designer

This is a beautiful movie I just came across about the life of an artist/designer.
Milton Glaser is a graphic designer who has created some of the most famous
visuals in history. His latest interview about Shepard Fairey’s Obama posters
brings to light some critical points for all artists. I see the fair use issue as a
fork in the road which could determine the future of how law could protect or
constrain art.
The movie is by Hillman Curtis who is a leader in commercial and artistic
multimedia projects including film and web.

another awesome birthday party for shane

Merrik’s friend Shane has the best birthday parties in town. This year there was a bounce house and
an amazing animal show with cotton candy and snow cones plus lots of other goodies. I think
the parents had just as much fun at this party as any of the kids. To see all the pics go to

next stop-the beach

After the harbor we HAD to go for a bike ride because we forgot to take the bike to the harbor. Nana Papa dropped us off at home and we loaded the Highlander up with beach gear and headed to Linda Lane. It’s nice to have the weather on our outdoorsy side again.
We walked down the beach trail and Merrik is getting so good on his bike that we adjusted the training wheels so he is a little more wobbly on it. The benefit is that his back wheel doesn’t get stuck in holes anymore and now he can concentrate on doing “skid marks” in the sand.
Maliea and Merrik had fun in the swings on our way back to the car.

harbor walk

We went to the harbor the other day with Nana Papa to see if Proud Mary’s was open yet. It has been since my birthday when I was pregnant with Maliea that it burned down. We went to have brunch there and it was still smoking. So sad because I remember going there the first day they opened back some time around 1976 (?). We were lounging on Dulcinea (our 27′ Catalina) in our slip and they came by and brought menus to tell us about it. We’ve been going ever since.
But, they are still struggling with some equipment problems so hopefully very soon we will be having lunch in their patio.
We spend a lot of time at the harbor. Almost as much time as at the pier in San Clemente. It brings back so many memories for me. It seems like I spent more time there on the weekends when I was growing up than I did in SC. I love that I have such wonderful places to take the kids to with Nana Papa.
