thought gap: merrik meet maliea

Jim suggested I photograph Maliea the same way I did Merrik at 4 1/2 months so I practiced with the set up today to see where the light was, camera settings, her strength for holding her head up etc. I didn’t think I got the shot but here they are side by side and it [...]
thought: maliea milestones
Maliea is rolling over now. She wakes up on her tummy and just hangs out in her crib cooing at her fishy mobile. She is such a joy and so happy and mellow. She usually sleeps 8-9 hours every night. Of course last night she didn’t because Merrik wasn’t here to wake me up! So [...]
thought: feeling sad and lonely
Merrik is at Camp Gramma Grampa and it is very quiet and boring around here. I have been busy catching up on client projects, cleaning house, organizing portfolio samples in the art room, and many other chores. Thank God I have Maliea’s joyous smiles, coos and wiggles to keep my days filled with goodness. Otherwise [...]
gap: will’s party

My friend, Kelley’s son had a birthday party this weekend. Will turned 5 and Merrik was invited. Here are a few previews from the fun day. The Birthday Boy:
thought gap: a lovely day for the beach

My girlfriend, Chris, and her husband, Matt and daughter, Amelia, came down to San Clemente for the weekend so we met them at the beach on Sunday. The pier was packed. Towel to towel and umbrella to umbrella. I can’t believe I ran into my friend, Maureen, there too! Another local at the craziest beach [...]
thought: maliea, maliea
Maliea is meeting milestones one after the other. She went to the Dr. for her 4 month well visit yesterday and is now 15 lbs 8 oz and 25 3/4 in long. She is starting to roll over on her tummy. Jim found her sleeping with her lower body rolled over on her tummy last [...]
thought: ingenuity
Many months ago I had to start putting Merrik’s snacks and cereals up high in the pantry because I would find him sitting on the floor with an open box of Panda Puffs munching away his appetite for balanced meals. I have recently been finding him munching on cookies and crackers that I had put [...]
thought gap: good stock

On Saturday, I went to a Birthday lunch for my Uncle Jim. It was a last minute thing which always works out the best for getting together with my mom’s side of the family. I got to see my cousin Dori who is my most favorite and inspirational person in the world. She is beautiful, [...]
thought: feel good sounds
Some of my most favorite “sounds” in iTunes while I’m working at home are the radio recordings we made while we were cruising in Tahiti. For those of you who don’t know, “cruising” doesn’t mean taking a trip on a huge commercial cruise ship. We did blue water cruising on a 38′ sailboat from San [...]
gap: greatest show on surf

We went to the Ocean Festival on Sunday. Jim was supposed to swim in several of the open water swim competitions but he was sick. It was a bummer to be at the festival without him. Merrik had fun because we ran into Armand-his new beach bud-and Armand’s friend Sophie. The boys are a crack [...]
thought: chaos
I am in the process of redoing the office, art room AND playroom all at once. It is going to be chaos around here to say the least. I am switching rooms for the playroom and office so the “kids” area is on one side of the house and the “adult” area is on the [...]
gap: village play

We visited with Aggelige on the grass near the library today waiting for Merrik’s classes to start. Here are a few images of him having fun running and a picture of his beautiful “octopus” windsock that he created. He used his hands to paint the body of the octopus while everyone else used paintbrushes. Usually [...]
gap: a sleeping baby

I rarely photograph my babes asleep. Reason: it wakes them up! When Merrik was asleep, you never did anything to wake him. Maliea is a much better sleeper but even today when I wanted to take pics of her beauty as she slept, I startled her with my movements and my shutter. So, I only [...]
thought gap: organic designs

I stopped by my very good girlfriend, Aggelige’s, shop in Old City Plaza today on the way to Merrik’s classes. Fortunately she was there so I had a chance to visit with her. Her cactus designs are amazing. She has a fantastic eye and beautiful taste in organic shapes and colors. Check out some of [...]
thought: new local etsy find

I found out today that Merrik’s Dino Discovery and Ocean Exploration teacher, Rhonda , has an etsy shop. Magnolia Designs is where you can buy her amazing hand wire wrapped jewelry. Some of the earrings take 10 hours!
thought gap: beach playdate

Several months ago I was about ready to give birth to Maliea so I took Merrik to the beach to enjoy his last days as an only child. I am always looking for places to go where he can play with other kids. We were at Linda Lane and as we were leaving a woman [...]
gap: cars
Merrik was given his dad’s collection of Matchbox by Lesney cars for his birthday by Jim’s mom. He has some of the coolest old cars and trucks and so far I have only pilfered one old style Mercedes coach but have my eye on more.
thought: sleep elusive sleep
Both Merrik and Maliea slept through the night last night. Sweet irony-Jim and I didn’t. I was awake several times checking on the little ones and when the teenagers were hanging out front with their car alarm going off. Jim was up for the excitement too and scared them off with his bat then couldn’t [...]
